Heart health and feet

Feb 15, 2021

Your Feet Offer Clues about Your Heart Health! Some of these can be detected through physical symptoms within your feet and health.

Symptoms related to poor foot health include:

  • Slow/ non-healing wounds
  • Foot and ankle oedema
  • Pain upon exercising
  • Reduced hair growth and cool skin temperature
  • Numbness
  • Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
  • Shortness of breath

Often those who are most at risk of developing heart related foot pathologies include:

  • Smokers
  • Diabetics
  • Elderly individuals
  • People with genetic or family history of atherosclerosis or high cholesterol

Having any of these symptoms can be synonymous with poor blood circulation. This could be due to possible heart irregularities, vessel narrowing or blockages which consequently limit blood supply to much needed areas within the body (particularly the feet).

Heart complications can be minimised though lifestyle changes such as:

  • Exercising
  • Healthy dieting
  • Regular blood pressure monitoring
  • Ceasing smoking etc.

If you or any family members suffer from any of these symptoms, please consult with your local doctor or visit the Dan Everson team for a general foot check-up.
